On June 21, three new North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association (NTFFRA) ambassador candidates were crowned by the reigning youth ambassador, Jesimae Harrison. The newly-crowned youth ambassadors are Jayde Nickel, sponsored by Rainer Custom Cutting (Ben Rainer); Alexis Amos, sponsored by Carl's Hay Sales (Jen Amos); and Morgan Wohlgemuth, sponsored by Sam's Pizza & Rib House (Ashley Wohlgemuth).
Harrison placed the banners and tiaras on the new candidates while the sponsors stood behind them in support. After the banner ceremony the candidates changed into their ribbon skirts in honour of it being Indigenous People's Day for the apron auction.
The ambassador, candidates and coordinators decorated aprons that were auctioned off to support the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Ambassador Program. Over $1,800 was raised during the apron auction.
Ambassador coordinator Lesley said, “Auctioneers Ashley Wohlgemuth and Jennifer Amos kept the auction lively and entertaining during the evening. We appreciate all of the support from those who bid on the aprons in support of this youth ambassador program.”
The NTFFRA Ambassador Program is geared towards building self-confidence, personal awareness and self-motivation, all the while enabling participants to have “a whole lot of fun”. The committee stresses that this is not a “beauty contest”, or a “most popular youth contest”; rather, it is a search for the newest youth ambassadors to proudly represent the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association and the entire North Thompson Valley.
The Ambassador Program is open to any youth enroled in Grades 9 through 11 who is a resident of the North Thompson Valley. Home-schooled youth are welcome to participate.
