Updated Nov. 11 - Highway 5 was closed to traffic in both directions following a single-vehicle incident which has sent one person to hospital on Nov. 10.
The incident, which happened near Fishtrap Canyon, was reported at around 1:15 p.m. on Sunday (Nov. 10), and first responders arrived on scene at 1:25 p.m. The lone occupant of the vehicle was taken by ambulance to Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops. There is no word on the condition of the driver at this time.
A tow truck was en route, and drivers posting to social media said that traffic was moving slowly. Some people were advising drivers heading south through Barriere to Kamloops to use the alternate route to Westsyde from Barriere.
"We will be headed to the scene for clean-up from Barriere as soon as possible, the vehicle is in the ditch at the crash site," Donny Kleinfelder, owner of Barriere Auto and Truck Tow, told Black Press at 2:30 p.m. "Drivers should proceed with due care and attention until we coordinate clean-up."
The cause of the incident is unknown at this time.
