Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a report of a man passed out in a car on Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

Salmon Arm RCMP officers were questioned about their job from a caller who'd reported a man being passed out in a parking lot.

At 11 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10, Salmon Arm RCMP responded to a report of a man being passed out at the wheel of a silver SUV in a parking lot on 3rd Street SW. Officers quickly located the man who was conscious and staring down at his cell phone, said Const. Andrew Hodges in a media release. The vehicle was off, legally parked and the door was open because of the 30 C heat outside. Hodges said the man was found to have a valid driver's licence and vehicle insurance, and was showing no signs of impairment.

"Police departed, and before the officer could call the complainant back, received a 911 call from the same complainant asking why police did not check the man’s licence and insurance," said Hodges. "Police explained to the caller that the man was parked legally, there were no signs of impairment and he had a valid driver’s licence and insurance."
