Barriere Fire Rescue and the District of Barriere has taken deliver of a new bush truck on May 29 into the Barriere firehall. The 2024 Ford 550 will be used locally and in support of BCWFS as needed.

Barriere Fire Rescue (BFR) and the District of Barriere (DOB) mayor and council got together for a big 'push' with exciting news for the community on Thursday, May 29 to welcome a 2024 Ford 550 bush truck, a new addition to the fire fighting fleet.

BFR firefighters, along with mayor Rob Kerslake and the DOB council celebrated the arrival of the new truck with a traditional 'push-in ceremony,' a practice that goes back to the 1800s when firefighters had to manually push their horse drawn apparatus back into service.

"The fire department’s bush truck is one of the most utilized apparatus and is a critical piece of the fire department," said Fire Chief Alexis Hovenkamp.
"It’s designed to navigate through tough, rural terrain where our larger engines cannot to action fires. We’re very thankful that Mayor and Council supported this project. This truck will also be available to BC Wildfire Service and provide back-up in emergency situations on loan when available."

There are many roles needed at Barriere Fire Rescue. People can train to provide support with specific tasks such as public education or handling animals. A single volunteer does not need to take on every role at the fire rescue.
