Barriere Elementary School principal's message

Barriere Elementary's principal, Mikel Brogan shares his monthly message for December.

Editor’s Note: Principal for Barriere Elementary Mikel Brogan gives his monthly ‘message’ to parents, guardians, staff and students for the month of December, 2024.

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

November was a busy and exciting month at our wonderful school and we’re looking forward to a season filled with joy and activity.

Volleyball season wrap-up

With the volleyball season now complete, I want to commend both our boys’ and girls’ teams for an outstanding year. The players demonstrated exceptional work ethic, teamwork, and remarkable growth throughout the season. A special thank you goes out to our dedicated coaches: Ms. Schilling, Ms. Smailes, Ms. K, and Ms. Galbraith. Your time and effort have made a lasting impact!

Introducing our breakfast program

We’re thrilled to announce the launch of a pilot Breakfast Program starting in January. Open to all students, this program will run every Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday morning in our lunchroom. The aim is to provide basic grab-and-go breakfast items to help students start their day right. More details will be shared in early January, and we’re grateful to our wonderful cook, Annie, for helping us bring this initiative to life.

Winter weather reminders

As winter settles in, we kindly remind everyone to exercise extra caution on school grounds. While we strive to keep pathways, fields, and entrances clear of ice, slippery conditions may still occur. Your vigilance is essential in ensuring everyone’s safety.

Please ensure your children are dressed warmly for the colder days, including proper footwear, jackets, gloves, and other winter essentials. If you have any gently used winter clothing items to donate, we’d gratefully accept them at the front office. Your generosity helps make a difference for students in need during the chilly months.

Parking and safety updates

To improve safety during pick-up and drop-off times, parking in the gravel area at the front of the school will no longer be permitted. “No Parking” signs will be installed shortly, and we’re in the process of adding a third crosswalk on the north side of the parking lot. Additionally, we ask everyone to remind students not to run between vehicles before and after school. Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our school community safe!
