North Delta voters will get two chances to hear directly from the candidates hoping to represent them in Parliament.
First up, the Delta Chamber of Commerce is hosting a business-focused all-candidates meeting at the North Delta Centre for the Arts (1425 84th Ave.) on Wednesday, April 16. Presented by the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board, the event will run from 7 to 9 p.m., with doors opening at 6:30.
Questions may be submitted in advance to jennyfer.cassar@deltachamber.ca, and attendees may also submit written questions from the floor during the event.
Then, one week to the day before voters head to the polls, the Delta Residents Association will host another all-candidates meeting at Northside Community Church (11300 84th Ave.) on Monday, April 21 between 2:30 and 4:30 p.m.
Organizers ask those with questions for the candidates to submit them via email (delta.residents@gmail.com) by Friday, April 18.
Both meetings will use a question-and-answer format, with candidates responding to queries submitted by voters and posed by the meeting's moderators, covering a wide range of issues.
To date, five candidates have declared their intention to run in Delta: Delta Police officer Jessy Sahota with the Conservative Party, recently departed Delta Chamber of Commerce executive director Jill McKight with the Liberal Party, educator/entrepreneur Natasa Sirotic with the People's Party of Canada, transit driver/cycling advocate Jason McCormick with the NDP, and web developer/small business owner Nick Dickinson-Wilde with the Green Party.
The nomination process for candidates closes Monday, April 7, and a complete list of confirmed candidates will be announced two days later, on Wednesday, April 9.
Canadians go to the polls on Monday, April 28, with advance voting from April 18-21 and mail-in options.
