Multiple Victoria Police vehicles respond to an incident near the Victoria Parliament Building on the evening of May 12.

Victoria police say they arrested a 15-year-old for assaulting a BC Transit driver with bear spray in the area of Government and Superior streets Monday evening.

On May 12, at approximately 7:45 p.m., VicPD officers responded to a call from BC Transit, reporting an incident near the Parliament Building, police told Victoria News.

Officers say they located the suspect, a 15-year-old male, who was arrested for assault with a weapon. He was later released and returned to his residence.

No one else was reported as injured due to the incident, said Victoria police spokesperson Cheryl Major.

The file is still under investigation, and police say more details cannot be given at this time.

Major said they have not seen an increase in reports of youth using bear spray recently, but said that type of weapon is "not uncommon."
