One person died following a crash between a logging truck and a passenger vehicle near Barriere on Tuesday, Mar. 1.

Barriere RCMP and a collision analyst responded to the crash at 6:40 a.m. along Agate Bay Road near Heffley Louis-Creek Road, east of Highway 5, reported BC Highway Patrol Cpl. Mike Halskov.

The driver and lone occupant from the passenger vehicle died in the crash.

Barriere RCMP Cpl. Rob Welsman said the collision wasn’t head-on, but occurred when the passenger vehicle, which was traveling in the opposite direction, collided with the side trailer that the semi-truck was hauling. The cause of the collision is still being investigated.

This is the second, two-vehicle fatal crash Barriere RCMP has responded to recently.

On Feb. 23, Mounties responded just before 11:30 a.m. to a crash on Highway 5 at the intersection of Vinsulla Ferry Road involving a sedan and a commercial tractor-trailer. A man in his 60s, the lone occupant of the sedan, died.

Police determined in that incident that the tractor-trailer, as it traveled southbound, swerved in an attempt to avoid the sedan, but collided with it head-on. The tractor-trailer then continued on into the west side ditch. The driver of the tractor-trailer was uninjured in the collision.

The cause of the collision is still under investigation; however, road and weather conditions are not believed to be contributing factors, according to police.
