The annual Central Saanich Flavour Trails kicked off on Saturday, July 12, with the Peninsula Country Market serving as a vibrant trail hub for the weekend's festivities.
The market, a popular fixture since its opening in June, operates every Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. until Thanksgiving in October, offering a diverse array of goods and a lively community atmosphere.
Drawing crowds eager to support local vendors, the Peninsula Country Market boasts a weekly turnout of 60 to 90 vendors, each showcasing unique products ranging from fresh produce and handcrafted woodwork to stylish hats, cuddly stuffed toys, food and exquisite jewelry.
Beyond the typical market finds, the event provides an opportunity to connect with the passionate individuals behind each booth, adding a personal touch to the shopping experience.

Overseeing the bustling scene is Niki Post, the dedicated market manager, easily identifiable in her signature purple vest.
Armed with a clipboard, pen and an ever-present smile, Post ensures the smooth operation of the market and checks in with each vendor, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
"It's getting bigger and better," Post enthused, reflecting on the market's growth over the past three years.
She highlighted the recent addition of a dedicated kids zone, a popular attraction that provides families with a space to relax and enjoy the market experience together.
Since its inception in 1991, the Peninsula Country Market has strived to create a welcoming atmosphere for all.
"It's the country vibe, the locals," Post explained, emphasizing the market's unique appeal. "It's a good spot to meet your buddies, have coffee and hangout – free entry, which is a big deal plus parking, which is another bonus – we've got something for everybody."

Adding to the festive atmosphere near the kids' zone, Mike "Balloon Dog" Dada regaled children with captivating pirate stories while crafting intricate balloon art.
Dada, a naturally comedic entertainer with 20 years of experience, has traded his clown wig and makeup for a career as a balloon artist, delighting audiences worldwide.
"Today is my last day of my island market gigs," Dada shared, noting that he is a regular fixture at the Sidney Street Market as well.
"I'm going and I’ll be doing festivals, spreading the joy and love throughout Western Canada until September," Dada explained.
Having performed in 42 countries over his 30-year career, Dada estimates he has created close to a million balloons, bringing joy to countless children and adults alike.
Across the next block, Letitia Frazier, adorned in a striking all-black ensemble, including a hat and a frog purse, welcomed visitors to her aromatherapy booth.

Describing her venture as "Aromatherapy Meets Willy Wonka," Frazier playfully refers to herself as "Witchy Wonka."
Frazier's appearance at the Peninsula Country Market marks a departure from her usual market circuits.
"This market in particular is more of a farmers' market, so it would be a little different for someone like me," she explained. "I usually do Bastion Square witch markets, psychic fairs, medieval ones, those would be more my cup of tea because who doesn't want to go there and get a fairy or a creature?"
Frazier offers customers the opportunity to harness the metaphysical properties of 50 different types of crystals, explaining that they can be used to manifest desires through intention.
Having transitioned from a career in guest services three years ago, Frazier has found her passion in selling sculptures online at elixirs.com.
Amidst the vibrant atmosphere, families like Leonard Peter's enjoyed strolling through the market, enjoying the live music provided by the band Threewheeler.
"It’s my second time at the Peninsula Country Market and so I brought my family with me this time," Peter happily said.

Satnam Dheenshaw, owner of Gobind Farms in Saanichton, remained busy tending to a steady stream of customers eager to purchase fresh raspberries, blackberries, loganberries, boysenberries and strawberries.
"Are you going to take a picture of me?” he asked Peninsula News Review, ready to embrace the spotlight as the line of eager shoppers continued to grow.
The Peninsula Country Market, as a hub for the Central Saanich Flavour Trails, offered a diverse and engaging experience for visitors, showcasing the region's local talent, agricultural bounty and vibrant community spirit.
The event provided a perfect opportunity to connect with local vendors, sample fresh produce, enjoy live entertainment and celebrate the unique character of Central Saanich.
The Flavour Trails hub moves to Silver Rills Corn in Saanichton on Sunday, July 13.
