The list of most popular dog names in the district in 2024 has arrived.

North Saanich has tallied up the most popular dog names in the district in 2024.

Out of the 1,006 dogs registered in the district last year, Bella and Lily were the top dog names given by their pet parents on the peninsula followed by Charlie, Luna and Maggie.

Except for Maggie and Lily, Seattle-based pet care service company Rover also listed Charlie, Luna and Bella in their list of the top dog names in Canada.

According to Rover, which searched through its database of more than a million pets to identify the most popular names and significant trends for 2024, 'Luna' has been the most popular female dog name in the country for three years in a row.

With its top five most popular dog names revealed, the district is reminding residents that the deadline for renewing dog/pet licences is on Feb. 28.

All dogs older than six months in the North Saanich district must have a licence, which must be renewed annually, per Animal Control Bylaw No. 751.

A new tag will be issued each year upon renewal. Only dogs residing in North Saanich require a licence from the district.

A $5.00 late fee will be charged if the due date on the renewal invoice is missed.

To register for a new dog licence, complete the dog licence application form, and return it to the Finance Department at the Municipal Hall in person or email it to admin@northsaanich.ca.
