New in 2024 Thompson Valley Buckaroos Cloverbuds 4-H Club

New to Barriere 4-H club in 2024, the Thompson Valley Buckaroos Cloverbuds 4-H Club for 6-9 year olds. The youngest participants of the 4-H program.

This year the Barriere 4-H Club welcomed the introduction of the Thompson Valley Buckaroos Cloverbuds 4-H Club for six to nine-year-olds.

Instead of having a single project this group, made up of the youngest 4H members, explore every topic/project that 4H has to offer so when they are ready to join the Yellowhead 4-H club they know what type of project they would be interested in pursuing. Cloverbuds are required to complete a scrapbook we work on throughout the year in order to achieve.

Each year covers a unit of seven topics this year so far we have covered:

Clothing

Clothing, by making our own uniforms with the wonderful help of Miette Koeneman of K33 Kreations and Deseray Van Sickle who graciously donated their time cutting all the iron on decals and assisting the kids in making the uniform. Agate Valley Services donated the yellow shirts.

The Buckaroos wear yellow uniforms with their logo, names and also don the Wishbone Day symbol in order to help a local high school student Claire Bourque raise awareness for Osteogenesis Imperfecta ( Brittle Bones) a disease in which she lives with.

Horse

Horse, by local Barefoot trimmer Vicki Maddox giving a whole in-person trimming demonstration at Leader Shanine Okrainetz-Hopsons hobby farm. A fun-filled day of learning about horses, farm scavenger hunts, and an additional Rabbit Showing demonstration by local Yellowhead member Olivia Fountain.

Dog

Dog, the club was invited to It's All Bark pet grooming salon in Downtown Barriere where we met TV star golden retriever Eddie and owner Jennifer Mill Hewett. A Former 4-H member and leader herself she demonstrated proper grooming techniques and had Eddie perform some tricks for the members.

Photography

Photography, the club met at Fadear Park with cameras in hang and snapped all sort of interesting and artful photos to add to their scrapbooks. They viewed a photography camera and we took club photos.

Goat

Goat, a surprise visit from Darla the miniature goat proved to be interesting at Fadear Park. Lots of curious onlookers as the kids tested her limits playing on the playground. Fun all around for the members and Darla.

The club is looking forward to covering Swine and Bicycle Safety in the near future.

This fall we will be recruiting new members, leaders, and knowledgeable volunteers to teach the next generation of 4-H members in a new set of activities. If this is something of interest to anyone feel free to contact 'A' leader Shanine Okrainetz-Hopson through our Thompson Valley Buckaroos Facebook page or by phone 1-250-318-6358.
