Ladysmith residents will have another chance to help shape the future of Rutti Park at an open house hosted by the Town of Ladysmith on Wednesday, May 21.
The event will take place at Rutti Park, located at the end of Rothdale Road, from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. Town staff will present three new schematic concept plans based on community feedback gathered during previous engagement sessions and a 2024 online survey.
Participants will be able to speak with town staff, view the proposed plans and provide input using sticky notes on maps positioned throughout the park.
“We’re excited to share the schematic concept plans that have been shaped by community feedback so far,” said Kim Nakahara, chair of the advisory committee. “This open house is another opportunity for residents to help refine those ideas and ensure Rutti Park reflects the values and needs of Ladysmith.”
The town is currently developing a Rutti Park Implementation Plan, which will outline existing amenities and identify future improvements based on community priorities. Survey respondents last year were asked to rank themes including the natural environment, sustainability, education and play, celebration of culture, and connectivity.
This is the second open house focused on Rutti Park’s development. The first event, held on-site, helped inform the design concepts that will be presented this month.
“We encourage all residents to attend this open house,” said Nicholas Pescod, the town’s communications and engagement specialist. “It’s a great opportunity to have your voice heard and shape the future of an important park in our community.”
Rutti Park, officially dedicated in 2022, sits on land that was part of the Rutti family farm for more than 100 years before it was acquired by the town in 2003.
