The trial for the man accused of murdering Salmon Arm woman Ashley Simpson ended abruptly Monday with a guilty plea.
Derek Lee Favell’s trial for the second-degree murder of former girlfriend Ashley Simpson ended the morning it began on Oct. 30, with him pleading guilty at the Salmon Arm Law Courts. Sentencing will take place over two days in February 2024. A pre-sentencing Gladue report was ordered.
Favell was charged with second-degree murder in December 2021, after Simpson’s remains were discovered in a wilderness area outside of Salmon Arm on Nov. 26, 2021. Simpson was last seen on April 27, 2016, in the area near Salmon Arm where she lived with Favell in a travel trailer on Yankee Flats Road.
