An evacuation alert (shown in the yellow portion) has been issued for the Browntop Mountain area east of Likely.

An evacuation alert has been issued by the Cariboo Regional District Emergency Operations Centre (EOC) for 316 parcels in the Browntop Mountain Area.

This alert covers 107,913 hectares to the east of Likely and a portion of the Cariboo River Provincial Park.

The community of Likely is not included in the alert area, noted the CRD EOC in a news release.

It is the fire 1.3 km south of Seller Creek that has prompted the alert, confirmed Gerald Pinchbeck, CRD EOC information officer.

BC Wildfire has the fire listed as 1,000 hectares in size, as out-of-control and lightning as the suspected cause.

Residents will be given as much time as possible should the alert change to an order.

Because of the alert, residents should have plans in place to transport family members or coworkers outside of the area.

Anyone who has not registered for the Cariboo Chilcotin Emergency Notification System is encouraged to do so.
