The District of Barriere will be seeking a new chief administrative officer following the resignation of current CAO Bob Payette.
Payette has served in the role since the summer of 2020, and has overseen a number of economic boosts for the District during his 3.5 years as CAO including a number of commercial/industrial development start-ups in the Louis Creek Industrial Park.
These enterprises help contribute to the economic stability of the district and have created a number of employment opportunities in the Valley. Another project the outgoing CAO is particularly proud of, is the fully grant funded renovation of the “Flume Business Centre” (previously known as the old HY Louis Building) in the center of town that is well underway. This project will be the business hub of the community with the relocation of the Barriere Chamber of Commerce and where other local businesses and organizations will call home. Completion of the project is expected in the early spring.
A posting is expected to be put up by the district immediately. Until a replacement is found, the District’s Corporate Officer Tasha Buchanan, will be filling in as acting CAO.
“We are very grateful for the experienced service and hard work that Mr. Payette has provided Barriere over the past few years as our CAO and we wish him well as he continues his Public Administration career on Vancouver Island,”said Mayor Ward Stamer.
Payette served with the Canadian Forces for 12 years. After retiring from the military he has been in the local government management field for the past 11 years.
His next stop is Vancouver Island where Bob and his wife Deirdre will be closer to family.
“My family is moving on to our next adventure… We’re thrilled to have spent over three years here as we’ve really enjoyed our time in this amazing community,” said Payette.
