Construction is now underway on Kelowna’s new Parkinson Recreation Centre (PRC) bringing visible changes to the site and some temporary disruptions for users.

While the current recreation centre remains open and accessible during the build, those heading to the Apple Bowl or other nearby facilities should be prepared for some changes to parking and site access.

The Apple Bowl is still available for use, but visitors won’t be able to access it from Burtch Road. The adjacent parking lot off Burtch is also now closed. Instead, the city recommends using the Spall Road parking lot near the tennis courts. That lot remains open, though slightly reduced in size.

Angel Way, the popular pathway through the park, is staying open for now. However, some intermittent closures or disruptions may happen as work progresses.

Several recreational amenities are temporarily out of commission. The Basil Meikle tennis courts and the lacrosse box (multi-use court) at PRP are now closed.

The cricket batting cage will be closed at the end of May. A new cricket pitch is under construction at Glenmore Recreation Park and will open as soon as possible.

The areas south of Mill Creek, including the PRC and PAC parking lot, and pickleball courts will stay open for now.
