The community can have its say on a major development proposed for the Commonage south of Vernon.
The 580 Commonage project by Kerkhoff Develop-Build is hosting a drop-in public Open House Wednesday, May 14 from 3 to 8 p.m. at the Vernon Recreation Centre auditorium.
Representatives from the project team will be on hand with displays to answer questions. Members of the public are encouraged to provide input and comment on the application during the open house, or via an online survey at 580commonage.ca.
The proponent is also seeking to hear from local residents about their experiences trying to find homes they can afford.
The proposal includes building 1,800 attainably-priced new, smaller format homes on approximately one-third of its 421-hectare (1,040 acre) property at 580 Commonage Rd., with the rest to be conserved and protected from future development.
"For us, ecological preservation is of the utmost importance. In envisioning 580 Commonage, over 650 acres will be protected through dedicated parkland - ensuring that local ecosystems, native plant species, and wildlife habitats thrive for generations to come," the developer said in a social media post.
"Our commitment goes beyond just housing – we’re building a legacy of balance between thoughtful development and environmental stewardship."
