A planned power outage to replace a BC Hydro transmission pole is impacting customers in the Clearwater area Wednesday, Aug. 21.

A planned power outage is underway for some communities north of Barriere Wednesday evening, Aug. 21, while BC Hydro replaces a transmission pole with cracked timbers.

Crews have been on site since 7:30 p.m. and the power is expected to be restored by 11:30 a.m. Thursday.

The mayor of Clearwater,  Merlin Blackwell, said Thursday morning the site proved harder to access to repair than first thought and much of the valley corridor is still out of power.

Originally it was anticipated the power would be back on by 1:30 a.m.

As a result of the power outage, the Wells Gray Medical Clinic is closed until 1 p.m. Aug. 22.

Anyone who has an appointment booked will be called to rebook as soon as possible.

Travellers are reminded they cannot stop in Jasper as it is not open to non-residents.

The power outages are impacting the Clearwater, Vavenby, Murphy and Avola areas with 3, 034 customers affected.

This article has been updated with information from the BC Hydro website about expected return of power.
