Barriere Elementary School has received a $7,500 from the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society to buy sports equipment.
The grant, applied for by the school’s Parent Advisory Council, will allow them to upgrade the school’s sports equipment, which is needed now that extra-curricular activities are back in full swing, PAC executive member Jen Crosman said in an emailed statement to the ronaldomanosa.
The activities had been curtailed during the pandemic but have started up again.
Crosman said the PAC would like to use the grant to replace the volleyball, basketball and track and field equipment.
Replacing indoor and outdoor hockey sticks and balls are also on their radar.
The school would also like to offer disc golf and badminton. The school does not currently have equipment for either sport, Crosman said.
“There are also some wish list items that may need to be pushed back to next school year, like a primary snowshoe set to add to our very well-used intermediate set,” Crosman added.
