Creston Valley firefighters responded to two wildfires just hours apart on June 11, tackling flames near Lakeview Arrow Creek in the morning and Corn Creek later that afternoon.
The first fire was reported around 11:30 a.m., prompting a response from 22 firefighters and 11 fire trucks. Crews quickly located a blaze roughly 50 by 100 metres in size. They gained control quickly and spent the rest of the day extinguishing hot spots.
“A special thanks to Jim McAuley for falling three danger trees, and the residents in the area for giving us lots of room to work,” stated Creston Fire Rescue in a Facebook post the following day.
At 3:30 p.m., while wrapping up their work in Lakeview Arrow Creek, Creston Fire Rescue was dispatched again — this time to smoke spotted billowing in the Corn Creek area.
A crew was sent to investigate and located a small fire, thankfully away from nearby homes. Four BC Wildfire Service members and eight local firefighters teamed up to access the remote site off Evans Road using UTVs. They used hand tools and water backpacks to extinguish the fire.
In both fires, no structures were lost and no injuries were reported.
“It was great working alongside our provincial teammates to get this fire knocked down quickly,” said Creston Fire Rescue.
