A new group has began overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Meadowood Community Hall.
The Meadowood Hall Recreation Association, a non-profit society run by volunteers, has agreed to run the hall that was formerly handled by Regional District of Nanaimo on a limited scale since it was completed in 2022.
"On behalf of the RDN, I want to extend our thanks to the Meadowood Hall Recreation Association for taking on the management of this important local recreational facility," said Leanne Salter, Electoral Area E (Coombs, Hilliers, Errington, Whiskey Creek, Meadowood) director. "Public spaces such as these, build and connect our community, and I look forward to Electoral Area F residents of all ages coming together at the hall.”
The MHRA will be responsible for maintenance and bookings of the hall, formerly known as the Meadowood Community Centre.
The RDN remains responsible for capital upgrades and repairs and will provide support to the association through this transition and on an ongoing basis when needed.
The community hall is a 4,200 square foot, single-storey pre-engineered steel building. Funded through Electoral Area F community works funds, hall features include a aommercial kitchen, meeting space, mezzanine with access to the multi-purpose space on the main floor, and 2,100-sq. ft. multi-purpose space with sport court flooring.
All existing Meadowood Community Hall rentals will be honoured.
