Abbotsford-based Horizon Equine Veterinary Clinic has been recognized as a finalist in the Best Professional Services category at the CanadianSME Magazine’s 2024 Small Business Awards.

Horizon was nominated in the Best Professional Services category for the event, which names winners in Toronto on June 20.

They are the lone Abbotsford business to receive a nomination for this year's awards.

They are a member of the American Association of Equine Practitioners, the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and are an Equinosis certified practitioner.

"Horizon Equine’s achievement underscores not only the team's extraordinary perseverance and commitment to equine health and well-being but also their service excellence to helping clients and treating their horses," stated general manager Tracy Holotuk.

Horizon offers services such as sports medicine and performance, surgery, reproduction and fertility, preventative care and wellness and many other treatment and rehabilitation options.

The veterinary team consists of Dr. Steve Chiasson, Dr, Lauren Jeffrey, Dr. Sarah Squinas and Dr. Jane Westendorf.

Horizon shared that their clinic dealt with major adversity during the 2021 flooding, with the facility being completely submerged and on-site facilities inaccessible.

"Despite these challenges, Horizon Equine continued serving clients without interruption, temporarily relocating operations to Dr. Chiasson's garage," Holotuk added. "By Feb. 2022, the clinic had resumed services on the WestGen Campus, rebuilding its facilities for over a year while maintaining its dedication to equine care. Since the floods, Horizon Equine has doubled in size, demonstrating remarkable growth and an unwavering passion for equine veterinary excellence."

In addition to regular services, Horizon also provides services to the many equestrian shows held in the Lower Mainland. They also collaborate with Douglas College annually to provide Registered Veterinary Technician Radiology Labs and practicums for RVT students.
