It was a busy weekend for the Abbotsford Police Department, which focused on trying to make the roads a bit safer for local commuters, handing out more than 100 tickets to commercial vehicles.
This latest commercial vehicle enforcement blitz conducted by the Commercial Vehicle Safety and Enforcement team led to 11 vehicles being removed from the road, with a total of 104 violations being handed out.
Const. Rob Dyck of the Abbotsford Police Department explained that these types of large-scale operations are crucial to help ensure that motorists remain as safe as possible when travelling through Abbotsford.
"The importance of doing these checks is that when other motorists are out on the road, they're not getting hit by potential unsecured cargo, whether that's rocks or other equipment," Dyck said.
He explained that the most common violations the team encounters during these checks are improperly secured cargo, loose potentially harmful debris on the exterior of the trucks, and tires worn down past the wear mark.
In addition to this commercial vehicle-focused operation, Abbotsford police also conducted their normal monitoring of the local roads, which led to an additional 40 tickets being handed out to drivers from June 6 to 8.
The tally of impaired drivers caught in Abbotsford also rose, with another 11 individuals being caught on the weekend.
