The Christian Life Assembly Pentecostal Church on Annesty Road in Barriere (across from the high school), has been holding a community Christmas Luncheon for years, and since 2010 the luncheon has also been used as an opportunity for donating to the Barriere Food Bank. From 2010 until 2016 they have raised over $4,200, plus received numerous food items for the Food Bank. The Christmas luncheon is a community effort. The Pentecostal Church provides the space, and organizes everyone; the Lions Club serve the lunch, and this year have donated 14 turkeys for the meal. Food Bank volunteers help in the kitchen, alongside church members and Lions. Ladies from other community churches bring the desserts. For the past two years a silent auction has been a part of the luncheon and it will be back again this year. Organizers have already been given some nice items, including a brand new jacket donated by the Gift ‘N’ Gab Trading Post. This year a grant from the Okanagan Pentecostal Camp Society has been received to help pay for the purchase of food and other items required for this year’s luncheon. The luncheon will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 12, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Those that can, are asked to bring a small donation for the Food Bank (non-perishable food items or cash), but a donation is not required. Everyone who attends will receive a door prize ticket and will have the chance to bring home one of the table decorations, which will be poinsettias this year. This event provides a great time to socialize while enjoying a hearty Christmas dinner, and everyone in the community is welcome to attend. If you need a ride, please call 250-672-0111.
