Multiple fire crews respond to warehouse fire north of Courtenay

Dispatchers said that the fire was a "large warehouse fire."

Fire crews are responding to a structure fire in Merville, with RCMP, BC Ambulance and BC Hydro on scene.

The fire is located at 6167 Tsolum River Road. Oyster River, Merville and Courtenay crews are on scene and requested mutual aid from the Cumberland Fire Department. At 10:45 a.m., a tender truck was en route from Cumberland.

An excavator was also en route just before 11 a.m.

A mutual aid request for manpower was also sent out to the Comox Fire Department, which arrived at 11:25.

Dispatchers said that the fire was a "large warehouse fire."

At 11 a.m., power was disconnected by BC Hydro.

Campbell River Fire Department was put on standby for any calls north of the Oyster River bridge.

Traffic control was taken over from the RCMP by Mainroad North Island Contracting.

At 1:30 p.m., crews from the various fire departments had begun standing down.
