Trail Orioles erupt for 16-hits, earn split with Ridge Meadows Royals

18U Trail Orioles prep for 4-game series against Chilliwack Cougars June 28-29 at Butler Park

It wasn't pretty, but the 18U Trail Orioles won the final game of a four-game series to earn a split with the Ridge Meadows Royals in B.C. Minor Baseball's College Prep League action on the weekend.

Trail's Thane Joyce went 3-for-3 and Darren Mailey collected four RBIs in the second half of the doubleheader on Sunday to lead the Orioles to a decisive 15-4 victory at Butler Park.

The Orioles jumped out to an early 4-0 lead when Julian Knelson doubled down the line at third, followed by a walk from Jack Boyes and singles from Joyce and Mailey.

Trail plated five runs in the second and, propelled by a three-RBI bases-loaded single from Connor Drake, scored six more runs in the third inning.

The Orioles erupted for 16 hits in the final match, in a series that saw a lopsided victory in every game.

Knelson was stellar at the plate with a three-hit outing, while Drake and Dobie went 2-for-4.

Orioles pitcher Levi Konkin threw four innings giving up three earned runs, while striking out two and walking five.

Raiden Dobie came on in the fifth and shut down the Royals and ended the game with the 10-run rule.

The Orioles opened the series with a 13-3 drubbing on Saturday; however, the Royals replied beating the home team 15-4 in the second half of the doubleheader.

On Sunday, the Royals belted its way to an 11-3 win in the first tilt, before the Orioles rallied for the Game 4 victory.

With the split, the Orioles record goes to 7-17, and remain in eighth place of the CP division.
