Past and present members of one of the Semiahmoo Peninsula's Rotary clubs celebrated a silver milestone in April.
The Rotary Club of South Surrey marked the club's 25th anniversary with a catered event April 23 at the Rotary Field House.
More than two dozen past members joined those who are presently involved to celebrate, including two from the club's starting days – inaugural president Garry McIntosh and fellow founding member Hardy Staub.
Officials shared a video showcasing 25 years of events and projects; a sampling of the club's efforts which have made an impact both locally and internationally.
Currently, the club's two main projects are the Men’s Shed – a social and mental-health group launched on the Peninsula in 2024 and described as a place "where men can get together and talk and help each other out" – and, the Children’s Happy Home, an orphanage in Battambang, Cambodia.
The projects are supported through fundraisers – including tribute concerts and shredding events – along with donations.
The club meets at the field house (14600 Rotary Way) at 7:15 a.m. on the first, second and fourth Wednesday of the month. The third Wednesday of the month is an evening social or celebration event.
