Kamloops RCMP have arrested and charged a woman from 100 Mile House after two police vehicles were damaged, after they responded to a report of a person sleeping in what they describe as a suspicious jeep.
In a press release, the Kamloops RCMP say that on Feb. 23, at around 7:45 a.m., they were called to the 800-block of Desmond Avenue for a check well-being request.
The RCMP say that according to the report, an unresponsive woman had been found in the front seat of a strangely-parked jeep, with the driver's side door open, and a broken rear passenger window. It adds that while officers had been on route, the jeep had departed.
According to Cpl. Crystal Evelyn, the spokesperson for the Kamloops RCMP Detachment, they had, as part of the investigation, "discovered the jeep had been reported stolen from 100 Mile House earlier this month."
"Soon after, a Tk’emlúps Rural RCMP officer located the vehicle in Heffley Creek and unsuccessfully attempted a traffic stop, during which the jeep struck a police cruiser," stated Evelyn.
Kamloops RCMP said they had the support of the Barriere RCMP, as well as the Southeast District RCMP Highway Patrol in successfully stopping the driver - which came after another collision with a police vehicle. Both officers were not injured, with the police vehicles receiving minor damage. A woman was arrested without incident and held for a bail hearing.
Cory Leah Maack, who is 45 years old, of 100 Mile House has been charged with flight from police, dangerous driving, possession of stolen property, and driving while prohibited. She was released on Feb. 24, with a next court appearance scheduled for Mar. 24.
Those who have witnessed, or have information, including dash camera footage that may be related to this investigation is asked to contact the Kamloops RCMP at 250-828-3000 and to reference file 2025-5072.
