59 fires burning within Cariboo Fire Centre on July 24

There are around 59 wildfires noted by BC Wildfire Service at the Cariboo Fire Centre as of this morning.

There are around 59 wildfires burning within the Cariboo Fire Centre region as of this morning, according to BC Wildfire Service.

In the past 24 hours, as of writing, 87 new fires had been discovered and 434 wildfires are burning across B.C.

Thirty-three fires in the Cariboo Fire Centre are classified as out of control, including the Antler Creek wildfire, which BC Wildfire Service has designated as a Wildfire of Note, 12 wildfires are listed as being held, while 14 are under control in the Cariboo. 

Quesnel

Around 41 wildfires are burning, mainly to the east of the Quesnel area, with the most notable one being the 14,283 hectare sized Antler Creek wildfire. An incident management team has been assigned to the wildfire, and there are around 100 BCWS and local contract personnel responding to the wildfire. In addition, BCWS aviation and heavy equipment are responding to the fire, and structure protection units have been deployed in Barkerville on structures and assets in the path of the wildfire. 

Evacuation orders are still in effect for the communities of Barkerville and Wells, as well as the northern part of Bowron Lake Park, as well as the Bowron Lake, Spectacles Lake area. An evacuation alert is in effect for the Cariboo Lake area. 

Williams Lake

Fire activity in the Williams Lake area has quieted down and a couple of small spot fires detected after lightning in the area were quickly extinguished by crews. The only wildfire of note in the area - the River Valley wildfire, a 37 hectare-sized fire that burned at River Valley Park, has been listed as under control. 

100 Mile House

A storm that had swept across the Cariboo led to several starts in the 100 Mile House zone of the Cariboo Fire Centre. Approximately 23 wildfires are currently burning in the 100 Mile House area. 

Two significant wildfires still listed as out of control near 100 Mile House are the Twin Creek wildfire, which is a 280 hectare wildfire currently burning southwest of Sodium Lake, and the Moose Valley wildfire, which is burning approximately 13 km to the northwest of 100 Mile House, according to the BC Wildfire map. The Moose Valley wildfire is highly visible in the 100 Mile House area, is estimated at 155 hectares and was detected on July 22. Fire crews and air support are actioning the fire.

The Twin Creek wildfire is being actioned by crews as well, supported by heavy equipment and aircraft. 

In addition, two new fires have been spotted in the Canim Lake Reserve: C41583, a 0.009 hectare wildfire which has been classified as "under control" by BC Wildfire Service and located at the northwestern edge of the reserve, and C41587, a 0.009 hectare wildfire which has been classified as "being held" being located at the northeastern edge of the reserve. The reserve says that they are aware about this and that local fire departments are currently responding to the fires. 

Other 

A 995 hectare sized wildfire named Benito Creek is burning out-of-control in 6.7km north of Baesaeko River not far northwest of Itcha Ilgachuz Provincial Park. Crews are receiving support from heavy equipment. 

Evacuation orders are in effect for the Kuyakuz Lake, Laidman Lake, Williamson Lake, Moose Lake and Malaput FSR areas due to the Laidman Lake wildfire. Evacuation alerts are in effect for the area of Tatelkuz Lake, and Kluskus Lakes, which is located at the northwestern tip of the Cariboo Regional District.
