Get folked up under the sun and stars with the Islands Folk Festival as it celebrates its 41st year against the ever beautiful backdrop of Providence Farm in Cowichan Valley from July 25 to 27.
Lovers of the long running festival will be 'Wide Eyed' with excitement when they discover that this year's line-up of vibrant talent includes headliners such as Wide Mouth Mason who will close the main stage on Friday, and Boy Golden who will do the same on Saturday, as the annual festival with five unique stages continues its legacy of blending live music with a loving community.
This year’s lineup for the three-day event showcases a mix of established and emerging artists such as Shawna Caspi from Toronto, who will be serving up some of her masterful finger-picking, and lyrical finesse, while Victoria's own Becky Prokova will be bringing songs from her acclaimed new album Uncover. A few of the many other talented acts on the roster include Ndidi O, The Paperboys, Art Napoleon, and UK-born folk singer Fiona Bevan.
As in years past there will much treasure to uncover at the festival such as free engaging workshops for all ages, including ones on the washboard, guitar, ukulele, songwriting, as well as group singing. Not only can you light your musical fire within, attendees can also immerse themselves in the music and festival with a whole camping experience on the beautiful forested grounds of Providence Farm as the talent, sun, and stars shine.
Little ones will also get their time to shine in the 'Sparkle Zone' Kids Area, a dedicated space for children, filled with fun and educational activities that include crafts, games, as well as interactive performances designed to entertain and inspire the young attendees.
As the Islands Folk Festival celebrates four decades in the community it continues its commitment to promoting sustainability and community engagement with efforts such as waste reduction initiatives, complimentary shuttles to the site, locally sourced food, and collaboration with local businesses and artisans.
