The Yellowhead 4-H Club hosted the annual Speech Day event at the North Thompson Fall Fair Hall on March 8.

On speech day, each member doing a speech can choose any topic they would like. Junior members must speak for three to five minutes. Senior members must speak for five to seven minutes.

Once all seniors have done their speeches, they must do an impromptu speech. An impromptu is a one-to-two-minute speech about a topic given by a leader. For example, this year, the topic was “If you could create a new subject in school that isn't already there, what would it be and why?” The members are sent out one by one to look at the topic. You get one minute to think about what you're going to say, then you go back and talk about it.

Congratulations to all the members who gave speeches this year. The junior winners this year were Adalyn Mclain – first place, Emmet Van Sickle – second place and Hadley Lampreau and Brooklyn Brackman tied for third place.

The senior winners were Caleb Knoll – first place, Jeff Fennell – second place, and Maryah Fennell – third place.

Congratulations to all the winners and thank you to all the judges: Keira Eustache, Christine Oats, Maureen Smith, Louise Lodge, Debbie Fraser and Megan Petterson.

Speech day was awesome. We had lots of fun and some great speeches were done. There was a delicious snack break with lots of home-made goodies. We are so excited to host next year’s club speech day.
