Vernon Mayor Stuart Fleming cuts the five-tiered birthday cake with its unique decorations in 1972, celebarting Vernon's 80th birthday. National Cake Decorating Day is recognized every Oct. 10.

Each year, for reasons known only to cake enthusiasts perhaps, Oct. 10 is chosen as National Cake Decorating Day. With that in mind, we were able to find a picture of then-Vernon Mayor Stuart Fleming cutting a wonderfully decorated five-tier piece of pastry goodness in 1972.

It was to commemorate Vernon's 80th birthday.

Have cake!
