Vernon students showcase CARE for climate

Climate Action Ripple Effect summit draws myriad of attendees, judged projects

Students CARE, that much is obvious.

Close to 600 students, teachers, mentors, judges, sponsors and community members celebrated diverse climate-action projects displayed and judged at the third Climate Action Ripple Effect (CARE) Student Summit at the Vernon Curling Club May 28.

“It was exciting and rewarding to experience the great energy and obvious pride in the room,” said outgoing School District 22 Superintendent Christine Perkins. “Given the growth in teachers, students, and mentors who CARE, its lasting impact within the school system and the community will be significant.”

More than 60 judges from the public, private, and non-profit sectors selected the following winning projects from six categories based on a variety of environmental, social, and economic factors:

1st Overall Senior (Grades 10-12): Transit 4 Teens - Jade Ha, Haylee Andal (Fulton Secondary);

2nd Overall Senior: Cactus Club Food Waste - Clara Jolie, Clowie Chatto, Geillan Mace, Tana Foss (Fulton Secondary);

3rd Overall Senior: Bugs & Blossoms - Jaida Correia, Alex Simms, Makayla Barker (Seaton Secondary);
