A total of 300 kids, ages two to 10 years old, participated in the 2024 Kids' Piccolofondo on Saturday, July 13, on Lakeshore Drive in Penticton.

An annual event that kicks off festivities for Okanagan Granfondo in Penticton is coming back.

Registration is now open for the "Piccolofondo," a bike race for children aged two to 10 scheduled for 8 to 9:30 a.m. along Lakeshore Drive on July 12.

The race will see kids split into different age groups and feature a race announcer, finish line, and course marshals. Around 300 cyclists took part in the event in July 2024.

“This Saturday event is often a highlight of the weekend,” says Jodi Cross, executive director of Okanagan Granfondo Penticton. “This is part of our community engagement — we want to give children of Penticton and the Okanagan area a chance to have the joy of participating in a cycling event.”

All registrants of the race will receive a bike plate, as well as a "safe and fun ride." Kids will also get a juice box, cookie, and medal at the finish line.

There will be opportunities for parents to spectate and cheer on their children, as the event takes place inside Rotary Park (185 Lakeshore Dr.).

It has run since 2011 and commences one day before thousands of cyclists hit the streets for the Okanagan Granfondo.

Registration for the "Piccolofondo" can be done at okanagangranfondo.com/piccolofondo.
