Fanfare, frivolity, foolishness, friends and fun: these were the ingredients of the second-to-last Chinook Cove Golf Ladies’ Night of the season, which was also the second-to-last Ladies’ Night of the reign of Queen Debbie the Younger and Queen Leslie the Elder.

The annual general meeting began in the usual solemn manner of other AGMs, with the executive making a presentation to Donna Salle for her years of assistance. Everyone knows when you golf with us you also have to work, and Donna has continued to do so for 20 years.

Once Barb Smith asked if she might have the floor, Debbie Rainer (the chair) lost total control of the meeting and the ladies. Cathy McNeil tooted a fanfare on her trumpet, and banners and fascinators (very fancy English headgear) were placed on the unsuspecting Debbie and me by Barb.

Accompanied by Cathy (again on her trumpet), the entire group serenaded Debbie and me with a wonderful rendition of “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious”. Yes, that is a real word that is listed in most dictionaries (I looked it up). Cards, gifts and potted plants were presented.

With the meeting back in the hands of Captain Debbie Rainer, the annual elections were held. Terri Jones was elected Captain and Zarina Mitchell was elected Vice-Captain. Congratulations and thank you to both for stepping forward. Looks like Ladies’ Night will be in good hands in 2024.

The week’s gross and net winners were Donna Salle, Susan Newberry, Trudy Forsythe, Lorie Chambers, Evelyn Lucas, Kate Schilling, Theresa Robinson and Hazel Wadlegger. Pin winners were Susan Newberry, Laurie Hawley, Anita Hill, Hazel Wadlegger, Jamie Mosdell, Marla Muldoon, Cathy Paul, Jeannie Webber, Theresa Robinson, Susan Mitchell, Trudy Forsythe, Joan Streadwich, Darlene Nickull, Susan Mitchell, Kristin Ross, Lorie Chambers and Lynda Dunlop. Pot winners (no, not that kind of pot) were Susan Newberry, Trudy Forsythe, Doreen Landry and Lorie Chambers.

On a personal note, both Debbie and I were very honoured and touched by the love and laughter shown us on Tuesday. We have thoroughly enjoyed leading Ladies’ Night. Next week is our final Tuesday, and we sure hope the weather gods are with us. See you at the course.
