Debbie Sherman is the Teen Scene facilitator for the District of Barriere which sponsors a regular evening of fun for kids from 12 - 18 years old at ‘The Ridge’ in the District of Barriere building.

The program is financially sponsored by the Lower North Thompson Community Forest Society who’s funding allow for the kids to enjoy refreshments, games and other fun activities.

Barriere Emergency Services recently donated a new Karaoke machine and a large screen television set to the program, which was gratefully accepted by program facilitator, Sherman,”We are so thankful for these types of donations. It’s really generous of Barriere Emergency Services and all of our other community sponsors.”

The program purchases drinks and snacks for a concession the teens can access with everything being only $1.00 and all of those proceeds go back into the pot to buy more for the next week.

On specific nights they often put on a hot dog, quesadilla night and serve a meal for the teens to enjoy. Local businesses have often donated projects and supplies for making crafts such as some recent wooden ‘pinball’ games the kids can put together themselves with a kit and instructions included.

“It’s just so much fun and so great to see so many kiddos showing up each week. We’ve had anywhere from 24 to 26 kids attending and have four rooms set up for a variety of things with a facilitator volunteer in each room to supervise. There is a room for ‘nerds’ with gaming, a room projects, karaoke, watching movies. It’s awesome and we all have a lot of fun together.”
