Father's Day Fishing Derby a success in spite of cooler weather

The Father’s Day Fishing Derby sponsored by The North Thompson Fish and Game Club didn’t let a little rain dampen their motivation to land the ‘big one’ on Sunday, June 16. There were 34 participants including children taking part in this year’s annual event.

Participants in the Father’s Day Fishing Derby sponsored by the North Thompson Fish and Game Club didn’t let a little rain dampen their motivation to land the "big one" on Sunday, June 16.

Thirty-four participants took part in this year’s derby, including seven children between the ages of six and 14 who entered with their families.

The derby rules stated participants could go to any lake within 50 kilometres of the Fadear Park bandshell to fish in the competition.

The day was a bit wet weather-wise, which organizer Kathy Campbell acknowledged. "It was not the most perfect day for fishing, but all seemed to have fun, even if they did get a little wet or half-frozen.”

Campbell was impressed with the fish that were caught. “There were 29 fish brought in for weighing to our station at the Fadear Park bandshell; a total of 22.86 pounds of fish. We really appreciated the District of Barriere allowing us to use the bandshell again this year, and we fed everyone freshly cooked hot dogs, adding a beverage after they came in.

"We are looking forward to doing this again in 2025!”
