Mayor Rob Kerslake - District of Barriere B.C.

Over the past several decades, our region has faced a number of challenging wildfire seasons that have tested the resiliency of our community. From smoky skies to evacuation alerts and orders, Barriere and surrounding areas have endured their share of emergency events. These experiences have taught us valuable lessons and have driven significant improvements in how we prepare for and respond to emergencies. Today, we are more equipped, more informed, and more connected than ever before.

The District of Barriere continues to prioritize emergency preparedness by strengthening local response plans and mutual aid agreements, improving equipment and communication systems, and working closely with Simpcw First Nation and regional partners to ensure the safety of our residents. We encourage everyone to stay alert, prepare emergency kits, and have family plans ready in the event of an emergency.

We encourage you to get a FireSmart Assessment of your home; you can even do a self-assessment using the tools at the https://firesmartbc.ca/ website.

I would like to extend my deepest thanks to the dedicated volunteers—especially our local District and Simpcw First Nation firefighters—as well as the District staff and TNRD emergency management personnel who work tirelessly behind the scenes. Your expertise, commitment, and care are vital to keeping our communities safe. On behalf of Council and the entire community, thank you for your ongoing support and service.
