On May 11, the Clearwater Curiosity Thrift Shoppe presented Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital Auxiliary (DHMHA) members with a generous donation in the amount of $34,100 to go towards hospital equipment items they choose from the current hospital wish list.

“With this large monetary help, we were able to purchase most of the items on the list,” said DHMHA public relations director Gail Capostinsky. “We are so thankful for all of the support that is received to make our local health care site one of the best-equipped in the province.”

The DHMHA has over 55 dedicated volunteers who contribute many hours to fundraising throughout the year. The funds are used to add to the comfort and welfare of patients receiving services from Dr. Helmcken Memorial Hospital.

“Some of these services include providing televisions and cable service free of charge to all acute care rooms, as well as music and cable service to the residents of Forest View Extended Care lounge area, and the hospital palliative care and family rooms,” said Capostinsky.

The auxiliary also operates a popular thrift shop in Vavenby, and a “Gift Corner” shop inside the hospital, both of which are major fundraising sources. There are a number of community events during the year, such as the Spring Garden Party and the fall 50/50 raffle for $10,000, which contribute to initiatives like purchasing new X-ray and lab equipment.

If you have any questions, or are interested in joining the auxiliary or possibly donating to their worthwhile efforts, please contact them at dhmhaux@gmail.com.

As they are a registered society, tax receipts are available for all donations made to the DHMHA fundraisers and to the auxiliary itself.
