A beautiful Canada Day celebration for families, residents and sponsors took place at Eleanor Lake Park in Blue River on July 1 that included a fun filled day of activities for all ages.

Many families and local residents were involved in the annual Blue River Canada Day Parade that started at Saddle Mountain Restaurant, winding through the streets of town and ending at Eleanor Lake to the cheers and applauds of those gathered.

The parade participants turned out with colourful Canada themed decorations on older model vehicles, bicycles, side-by-sides while escorted by police, ambulance and a fire truck.

Throughout the day at Eleanor Lake, activities like a watermelon eating contest, nail pounding, canoe races bucket relays, sand castle building and a trivia game attracted participants from all ages. Donated prizes ranging from cash prizes for the trivia game, paddle boards, pool noodles, water guns, bubbles, Nerf toys, hoodies, hats, beach blankets medals and were handed out to the happy winners.

Local tattoo artist, ‘Scotty’, offered face-painting for the children and many sponsors supported the day with their generous time and donations. An evening of music by the lake completed the festivities under the stars.

The Blue River Community Association thanked all sponsors during the event:
