Barriere Secondary School gymnasium was the place to be Friday, May 26 for anyone wanting looking to make a difference in the community.
The district of Barriere hosted the annual Volunteer Fair from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m.. It was a well-attended event that displayed many of the area’s organizations who were on hand hoping to encourage new volunteers to become involved.
Students from Barriere Secondary School were in attendance in the gym while Mayor Ward Stamer and CAO, Bob Payette, manned the grill cooking up juicy hot dogs and hamburgers and passing out ice cold water to everyone visiting the fair.
The event was a great time to socialize, explore volunteer opportunities and even win some great door prizes.
The participating booths included: Anti Violence Advocates Society, Barriere Emergency Support Services, District of Barriere, Barriere Outdoor Club, Barriere and Area Hospice Society, North Thompson Communities Foundation, Barriere Food Bank, NTFF & Rodeo, Barriere Search and Rescue, Barriere Secondary School PAC, Barriere Elementary School PAC, Barriere Curling Club, Barriere Library, Barriere Fire Rescue, Barriere and Area Literacy and Learning, Barriere and District Heritage Society and the Barriere Lions Club.
Local sponsors for prizes included Petro Canada, A&W, Interior Plumbing and Heating, Timber Mart, Chinook Cove and DJ’s Plumbing.
