A Barriere resident attended the detachment to report their wallet was stolen out of their car. It was parked at the mechanic and left unlocked.
Later, the vehicle owner realized that they had forgotten their wallet in the car. It contained credit cards, driver’s license, BC Service Card, SIN card and around $400 cash.
To replace their driver’s license, they had to travel to Kamloops as the office in Barriere is closed on Monday’s.
Here are some tips on what to do in case your wallet is lost or stolen:
Generally, don’t keep all your IDs in the same place like your wallet;
Keep birth certificate and SIN card in a safe place at home;
If you have lost your wallet:
Immediately report your debit and credit cards lost by contacting your bank;
Let your local RCMP Detachment know;
Replace your driver’s license with ICBC (must have ID);
Replace your BC Services Card with ICBC (must have ID);
Replace your birth certificate with the Vital Statistics department from your birth province;
Replace your Social Insurance Number card with Services Canada.
• ICBC requires two pieces of ID; primary and secondary. Primary IDs are: BC driver’s license, BC Services Card, Combination driver’s license and BC Services Card, BC ID card, Canadian Birth Certificate, Canadian Citizenship card/ certificate, Canadian Passport, Secure certificate of Indian Status, and more. All IDs have to be valid. Secondary IDs are Bank card (both your imprinted name and signature must appear on the card), Birth certificate from foreign country, Canadian Forces ID, Certificate of Indian Status, Credit card (both your imprinted name and signature must appear on the card), Métis (MNBC) identification, Nexus card, Pleasure craft operator (Boating licence - Canadian), Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL), Student card (school ID) and others.

The Barriere RCMP responded to over 30 additional calls for service this week, attended community events and participated in a lockdown drill at one of the local schools.
