On 2023-10-08 the Barriere RCMP received a call stating that someone had fired a rifle shot into a property near Louis Creek. It was quickly determined that this was a matter of illegal hunting. Two males in a black truck were on the road near the edge of the property and fired a single round down the hill, presumably at a bird. The property rep yelled at the males, stating that they were shooting on private property and they left without incident. No one on the property was at risk and they were not aiming at any of the dwellings. A few illegal hunting incidents around this property were reported earlier this year.

A complainant attended the Barriere RCMP Detachment to report a possible fraud. The man informed the police officer that he clicked a pop-up on his computer which directed him to call Microsoft stating his computer had been hacked. The call went to a call-taker with an accent who explained he required banking information in order to fix the computer. The information was provided when the call taker then demanded for the man to attend the bank for a draft as the hackers could not access his online banking. The man attended the bank to take out a draft and was informed by the tellers that he was being scammed. Luckily no money was taken. The bank was able to flag the unauthorized access and shut down the account. The banking info was changed and new cards issued. The Detachment Commander would like to remind community to refrain from providing personal/banking information online or by telephone. When in doubt, contact a trusted friend of member of your family to confirm the validity of requests.
