Back to school

With the arrival of September, I’d like to remind all community members that school zones are back in effect. School zones are active between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on all school days. Please allow for extra time to travel, especially during busy and congested periods, and be on the watch for youth walking to/from school.

The Barriere RCMP will be in the community to provide education/enforcement, and remain committed to ensuring the safety of our youth.

Winter driving

September is a great time to begin preparing for winter driving. As a reminder, winter tires are required on most B.C. routes between Oct. 1 and April 1.

A winter tire will display one or both of the mountain peak/M+S (Mud and Snow) symbols on the sidewall. The law also states that a winter tire must have no less than 3.5 mm of rubber tread.

Please take the time to discuss the conditions of your vehicle/tires with your family, and to prepare emergency kits in the event of storms this winter.

If you have any questions with respect to winter driving or regulations, or wish to receive further information on how best to prepare yourself for the upcoming winter season, please contact the Barriere RCMP detachment.

Cpl. Kyle Camalush is the detachment commander of the Barriere RCMP.
