The Barriere RCMP have been receiving an increased volume of complaints with respect to tenancy disputes. Civil issues can be difficult to manage for the parties involved. Normally, there are limited avenues for the police to intervene unless the situation has escalated to the point where the safety of people or property is at risk.
The Residential Tenancy Branch provides excellent information on their website for both renters and landlords. The RTB provides the framework on the rental process and tenancy dispute options. The website provides forms as well as services and information on all related topics.
The RCMP would like to encourage tenants and landlords to view the RTB website to learn of applicable laws and information surrounding legal rent increases, sale of rental unit(s), etc. Services on the site/phone are provided in more than 200 languages.
