Barriere Pickleball Club hosts Canada Day pickleball tournament

Competitors from as far afield as the United Kingdom came to battle for the grand prize: jars of pickles

The Barriere Pickleball Club is back in full swing, heating up the courts while hosting a Canada Day long weekend tournament on June 29.

The tournament attracted 24 participants — from Barriere, Clearwater, Kamloops, the Lower Mainland, and even the United Kingdom — who came to compete for the grand prize: two extra-large jars of pickles, which were awarded to the winning team of Ed Smeeton and Murray Livingstone.

Pickleball chefs Jim Biller and Carl Gough cooked up a special Canada Day barbecue of cheeseburgers and hot dogs; with, of course, some pickles on the side.

Barriere Pickleball Club member Tracy Zimmer told the Barriere ronaldomanosa that it was “a great way to spend a memorable Canada Day. Special thanks to our timekeeper, Dave Shanko; court custodians Dan Steele, and Monique La France; and photographer Shelley Lampreau!”
