Barriere Emergency Services Golf Tournament raising money for youth programs

It has been a challenging number of years for the entire province recently. We put our BES Golf Tournament on pause in 2019 to give all a year off and ran right into COVID 19. This is our second tournament back after four years and we found there was increasing interest to have the tournament and try to keep our dreams of helping youth alive.

It has been a challenging number of years for the entire province recently. We put our BES Golf Tournament on pause in 2019 to give all a year off and ran right into COVID 19. This is our second tournament back after four years and we found there was increasing interest to have the tournament and try to keep our dreams of helping youth alive.

We are so impressed by how many of our sponsors truly stepped up and supported so many in need over the last few years and still were able to support us.

We thank all of those individuals, businesses and non-profit groups that gave so much during the fires, floods and through COVID 19.

We also want to recognize all the first responders that worked alongside each other to keep our citizens, their property and belongings as safe as possible in such a dynamic situations and risk to themselves.

The tournament raises money for youth programs in the North Thompson and provides two $500 bursaries to the Barriere Secondary grads. The tournament was held on August 19, 2023 at the Chinook Cove Golf and RV, a 1 p.m. shotgun start with 18 teams playing. It is a fun, best ball event with teams of all calibres. The first and last place teams get an extra prize each but the rest of the prizes are drawn so anyone could end up with the most expensive prize. Each team gets called up, draws a number for a prize then has one opportunity to trade it in at the exchange table, which was loaded with great prizes. We did raise some significant funds to donate back this year with two bursaries already awarded to two Barriere Secondary grads. We will be posting our applications on our website and available at request from our coordination team for youth program support with applications closing on October 31st.

Our mission is to provide funds to enhance programs in place or support new programs to provide all area youth with diverse opportunities that allow all to participate. Our goal is for all youth to have fun, healthy, safe and inclusive choices.

You can drop off the applications for funding at the Barriere RCMP Detachment or mail to PO Box 558 Barriere, BC V0E 1E0. Or you can hand deliver to one of our coordinators in Barriere; Theresa Young, Deb Stamer or Darin Underhill.

You can find all details for registration, tournament rules, updates and our sponsor list on the website at www.besgolf.com. If you have any questions at any time please email besgolf@gmail.com or call 250-299-1130.

We look forward to another great year in support of our area youth, promoting healthy and inclusive choices for all.
